Mangaluru, Apr 13, 2025: Christians across Dakshina Kannada district observed Palm Sunday on April 13 with deep reverence and devotion, marking the beginning of Holy Week—one of the most sacred periods in the Christian calendar.
The day commemorates Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where he was greeted by crowds waving palm branches and chanting “Hosanna.” In keeping with tradition, parishioners gathered at churches throughout the region, holding blessed palm fronds and participating in symbolic street processions that re-enacted the historic event.
In Mangaluru and various coastal parishes, large numbers of the faithful took part in the solemn observances. Accompanied by prayers and hymns, the processions served as a public expression of faith and a reminder of the spiritual victory of good over evil. Churches across the district conducted special masses to mark the occasion.
Palm Sunday heralds the start of Holy Week, which includes the observances of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and culminates in the celebration of Easter—the cornerstone of Christian belief.
