Mangalore, Feb 22, 2012: The city police have rounded up a gang of lorry thieves and arrested two residents of Kulshekar in Mangalore and have confiscated property worth Rs. 60 lakh from them on Feb 22 Wednesday.
The arrested are Naveen Noronha (36) and Dhananjay (25).
Speaking on the case, Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh stated that around 8 people who are involved in this racket are currently absconding. The gang used to break down stolen lorries, re-assemble them, give them old registration plates, and re-sell them. The also used to change the chassis and engine numbers.
The gang used to target lorries, which did not have GPS. The police have seized from the gang four lorries, a body of a tipper, six new tires, four jockeys, three discs, 5.5 tons of iron rods, a Swift Dezier, a Matiz, a bullet, and a kinetic.
The police are currently hot on the trail of the absconding members of the gang.
