Operations Officer of the Coast Guard (Karnataka) Rajender Singh Sapal said that the Coast Guard, the fisheries department, and the personnel kept a night-long vigil for the distressed vessel. The local fishermen and the Coast Guard could not launch a rescue operation from land and sea side because of the five-foot high waves. The rescue operation, therefore, was launched only on Sunday.

At 8:30 this morning, the Coast Guard patrol vessel Annie Besant sailed out to the stranded fishing vessel, which was around 4 nautical miles from the New Mangalore Port, said Commandant Padam Shekar Jha of the Coast Guard of Karnataka. The fishing vessel and its crew comprising Shaji of Kerala, Gunan of Chennai and Raj were taken to New Mangalore Port. The owner of the boat is currently in Dubai.

Recently, the Coast Guard had rescued 12 fishermen from Beypore off Surathkal coast.
