Mangaluru, December 24, 2024: Preparations for Christmas are in their final stages along the coastal regions, with celebrations set to begin at midnight on December 24. Christians across the region will commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ with midnight masses and carol singing in churches.
Churches in Mangalore Diocese, including those in Bantwal, Puttur, Moodbidri, Kasaragod, Vitla, Mogarnad, Mudipu, and Mangaluru city, will start Christmas celebrations from 7 PM on Tuesday. The festivities include carol singing, followed by special midnight Masses led by priests. At the conclusion of the Mass, candles will be distributed, and the congregation will exchange greetings before participating in cultural programs.
The midnight Mass at Rosario Cathedral in Mangaluru will be officiated by the Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha.
The festive spirit is evident everywhere, with nativity cribs, stars, and bells adorning homes and churches. Special Christmas delicacies, especially cakes, and Kuswar, are in high demand. Many church organizations are preparing and distributing Christmas treats to the needy.
The sale of Christmas decorations, including trees and Santa Claus costumes, is in full swing. Churches in the region have been illuminated with decorative lights, adding to the festive mood.
