Udupi, Feb 26, 2018: The Upendra Pai Memorial Monument named "The Coinage" near the Country Inn & Suites Hotel, was unveiled and inaugurated by Udupi District in-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj.
The monument has been the creation of noted contemporary artist Tallur L N. The 27 feet tall monument weighs 6.5 tonnes. The sculpture represents the life of late Upendra Pai as well as the culture and tradition of the region. The seven coins on the monument indicate different aspects. If one is the replica of the one pice coin with the pictures of moon and sun, there is the replica of an antique coin with image of Tiger in RBI logo. Royal emblem of Alupa dynasty, Kannada script from Vijayanagara dynasty, 3 paise coin having images of a bull, fisheries, profiles of Chanakya and Mahatma Gandhi can also be seen in the monument.
Sandhya Pai, Managing Editor of Taranga, T Satish U Pai, Chairman of Manipal Technologies Ltd Gautham Pai, Dr B M Hegde, SP Lakshman Nimbaragi, Udupi CMC Chief Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje and others were present .
