Mangaluru, Jun 22, 2018 : Demanding an early completion of the Thokkottu flyover, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel warned of stopping the company from collecting toll, if the concerned authorities do not give the date of completion in writing.
Kateel convened a meeting of the NHAI officials and the Navyug company representatives at his office in the deputy commissioner’s complex in Mangaluru on Thursday,
The MP expressed his discomfiture against an inordinate delay in the works at Thokkottu flyover. The Navyug company, which availed contract for the work, had promised the completion of the work in May 2018. But, the work is pending still. The NHAI officials failed to monitor the work, the MP said.
Kateel urged the company representative to submit an affidavit to him, mentioning the time of completion of the work. The MP said that he, along with the public, will stop the company from collecting toll if the company does not fulfill its promise. The NHAI and Navyug constructions have tainted the image of the Central government by procrastinating the flyover works at Thokkottu and Pumpwell. “The NHAI is giving lame excuses for not having the manpower and technical facilities. Why run a company if they do not own basic necessities”, he asked.
‘Restore damaged roads’ : The MP, meanwhile, directed the NHAI officials to restore the roads which were damaged following heavy rain, along with clearing the stormwater drains. He will conduct a visit, along with the elected representatives and officials, to the flood-affected areas on June 24 or 25.
Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath and Zilla Panchayat vice president Kasturi Panja were present at the meeting.
