Mangalore, Jan 25, 2012: The Congress and the BJP called separate press meets regarding RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat’s alleged provocative speech, which led to stone pelting incidents after the Hindu Samajotsava held at Uppinangady recently.
Congress press meet
Addressing reporters at a press meet held at Hotel Woodlands on Jan 25 Wednesday, Congress leader Ivan D’Souza said that the City Block Congress condemns the provocative speech delivered by RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat and that a protest will be organized in front of the DC’s office on Jan 27 Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Further, he said that District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar had personally visited the Uppinangady Police Station to urge the police to withdraw the first information report (FIR) they had filed against the RSS leader. He criticized the minister, who is supposed to act in the best interests of the people of the district, for supporting the very person who had verbally attacked almost every community.
Flaying Palemar for mindlessly using his power, he urged Palemar to understand that he is not the district-in-charge minister for any one community, but for the entire district. Congress leaders Nagendra, Praveenchandra Alva, and Ashraf were also present at the press conference.
BJP press meet
Meanwhile, Monappa Bhandary, the former president of the district unit of the BJP, also called a press meet in the office of the District BJP on Jan 25 Wednesday.
He told reporters that Hindu Samajotsavas have been organized for the past 20 years to enhance awareness among Hindus regarding burning issues such as religious conversion, Love Jihad, terrorism, Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill, and others.
Stating that the police department is solely responsible for the stone pelting incident after the Hindu Samajotsava held in Uppinangady, he said that the incident would not have occurred if the police had provided proper security.
Bhandary also said that anybody who found any part of Dr. Bhat’s speech offensive could have lodged a complaint at the local police station. Stating that the incident is purely political, he said that the Congress and the KFD are trying to use this incident to strengthen their vote bank for the upcoming Vidhana Soudha elections.
In response to Congress demands for the immediate arrest of Dr. Bhat, Bhandary said that far from insulting any religious community or religion, Dr. Bhat was discussing problems faced by the country.
BJP leaders Devdas, MLC Ganesh Karnik, Rajgopal Rai, and Franklin Monteiro were also present at the press conference.
