Congress demands white paper on MCC financial condition

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, September 2, 2024: Mangaluru City Corporation’s opposition leader Praveen Chandra Alva has alleged that the MCC has gone bankrupt and has demanded that the Mayor bring out a white paper on the financial condition of the MCC.

Speaking to reporters at the Congress office on Monday, he said it has been difficult to undertake ward level works with no grants coming from the Local Area Development Fund for corporators.

He alleged that the BJP administration has failed in getting any new project beneficial for the city in the past four year period and said the property tax has been hiked five to six fold during the BJP tenure itself.

Water rate hike, solid waste management cess hike, Jalasiri scheme failure, bad roads due to gas pipeline works, lack of cleanliness in the markets and discrepancies in the underground drainage system are the achievements of the BJP rule in MCC, he said.

Alva also alleged that the Mayor adopted a dictatorial stance at the recent MCC meeting and has shown disrespect for opposition members.

Congress corporators Shashidhar Hegde, Vinay Raj, Naveen D’Souza, Lancelot Pinto and others were present.
