Mangaluru, October 2, 2024: The Congress party has selected S. Raju Poojary, former Udupi Zilla Panchayat president and director of South Canara District Central Cooperative (SCDCC) Bank, as its candidate for the Karnataka Legislative Council byelection from Dakshina Kannada Local Authorities constituency, scheduled for October 21.
AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal announced the decision, approved by Congress president M. Mallikarjun Kharge. The byelection was triggered by the resignation of Kota Srinivas Poojary, now an MP for Udupi-Chikkamagaluru. October 3 is the deadline for filing nominations.
Raju Poojary, a commerce graduate, has held key positions in local governance, including serving as Udupi ZP president from 2008 to 2011. He is also a cooperative leader and founder of Sriram Sauharda Credit Cooperative Ltd. He currently serves as vice-president of the Udupi District Congress Committee.
