Mangaluru, April 23, 2025: The Congress will stage a protest in Mangaluru on April 26 against the Union government hiking price of cooking gas (lpg cylinders) recently, according to Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee president K. Harish Kumar.
Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, he said that the Union government hiked the price of cooking gas after hiking the prices of petrol sometime ago.
Mr. Kumar said the Congress government is implementing five guarantees to help people save money to tide over inflation and help women to become self reliant. But with the increase in fuel prices and lpg, most of the amount saved by the family from guarantees is going towards meeting the high cost of fuel and LPG cylinders.
When pointed that the rise in fuel (diesel) prices was also due to increase in the taxes by the State government, Mr. Kumar said: “Let the Central government reduce the tax first and the State government will follow suit to bring down its tax.”
Mr. Kumar said on April 26 there will be a march from Ambedkar Circle to Clock Tower at 10 a.m. and the protest will be staged near the tower.
Apart from District in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and MLC Manjunath Bhandary, All-India Congress Committee Secretary and Karnataka in charge Roji M. John will take part in the protest, he said.
