Congress will win Bellary by-election – Oscar Fernandes

Udupi, 24 November 2011: Congress leader Oscar Fernandes expressed his optimistic opinion that the Congress will win the Bellary by-election. He was addressing reporters in the District Congress office on Wednesday.

Further, he said that a Congress candidate in Bellary received 38,000 votes last time and that the number of votes will be more this year because the people of Bellary are fed up of MLA Shriramulu. He also said that the people of Bellary are tired of the BJP-led state government, owing to which the Congress will get the majority in Bellary this time.

Commenting on the opposition to the proposed Communal and Targeted Violence Bill of 2011, he said that this bill is getting the wrong type of publicity. Stating that it intends to punish those who are creating communal violence, he demanded to know how this can be wrong. He urged those opposing this bill to suggest changes if required and avoid creating the wrong impression regarding the bill among the public.

Responding to Eshwarappa’s comments that the central government will fall before the Udupi – Chickmagalur Loksabha by-election, eliminating the need for DVS to resign, Oscar Fernandes urged Eshwarappa to focus on the big rat on his plate before searching for flies in their plates.
