Contract worker dies in mishap at MRPL

Mangaluru, May 06, 2019: A contract worker lost his life after a pipe accidentally fell on his head during the ongoing works in the third phase plant of MRPL on Saturday.

mrpl.j The deceased is Vakil Kumar (37), a resident of Jokatte. He hailed from Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh. He was working for Akash Engineering which was the contracting agency at the third phase plant. It is learnt, a huge pipe fell over him while he was engaged in welding works at around 12:30 noon on Saturday. Though he was rushed to the hospital his life could not be saved.

A post mortem has been done. But it is not yet clear if the body of Vakil has been taken to his hometown in Uttar Pradesh or if it was still in Suratkal.

The contract company is learnt to have assured to provide compensation of Rs 10 lakhs to the family of the deceased.

Meanwhile, DYFI which has alleged negligence on the part of the contract company for the death, has demanded a thorough probe into the incident.
