Mangaluru, Feb 11, 2024: A private school campus in Mangaluru city was engulfed in tension briefly as parents demanded clarification from the headmistress regarding alleged derogatory comments made by a teacher in the classroom. Commotion ensued as parents gathered outside the school premises in the city. Police were called to assess the situation.
Acting swiftly, DDPI DR Naik dispatched block resource centre coordinator Prashanth to investigate the matter. Despite efforts by the headmistress to address concerns, parents remained dissatisfied with the explanations provided.
The DDPI announced that the Mangaluru South BEO and BRC coordinator would visit the school on Monday to compile a detailed report on the incident. The issue gained attention following the circulation of an audio clip by a parent addressed to a VHP leader. The parent alleged that a Class VII teacher had made remarks that offended religious sentiments while discussing the concept of "work is worship", mentioning topics such as Ram Mandir and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The parent further claimed that similar incidents had occurred in the past.
City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal confirmed that the BEO was conducting an inquiry into the matter. VHP representative Sharan Pumpwell urged the DK DDPI to take appropriate action against the teacher for the alleged derogatory remarks.
