Karkala, January 5, 2025: In a dramatic rescue operation on Sunday morning, firefighters in Karkala successfully saved a couple who had fallen into a well.

The incident took place on Kallotte Pervaje Road, where Anitha Mallya (57) accidentally fell into a well approximately 60 feet deep, which contained 20 feet of water. Her husband, Annappa Mallya (59), rushed to her aid, climbing into the well in an attempt to rescue her.

Struggling to stay afloat, the couple managed to cling to a pump pipe until the Karkala fire station team arrived. Acting swiftly, the team successfully brought both individuals to safety.

The rescue effort was led by officer Albert Monis, with assistant fire officer Chandra Shekhar and personnel Hariprasad Shettigar, Sanjay, Hasan Multani, and Ravichandra Korawar playing critical roles. Their coordinated efforts ensured the couple’s survival, earning praise from the community.

The couple escaped the ordeal with minor injuries, thanks to the timely intervention of the firefighters.
