Mangaluru, January 14, 2025: Accusing the State government of protecting the accused who slashed the udders of cows in Bengaluru on Saturday night, the BJP on Monday demanded resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah alleging that the government had failed to protect cows.
Speaking at a protest over the incident organised by the BJP near the Clock Tower on Monday, K. Pratap Simha Nayak, MLC, said that it was sad that the incident took place just two days ahead of Makar Sankranti when people worship cows. It is a conspiracy to create unrest in the State during the festival, he alleged. “There is a specific design to test the patience of Hindus,” he said.
The government had failed in its duty to protect cows, which was enshrined in the Constitution under Directive Principles of State Policy. Mr. Siddaramaiah has to take responsibility for the same and resign, he said.
N. Ravi Kumar, MLC, said the incident has brought a bad name to society. The police are now stating that the incident was by a North Indian man in an inebriated state, which cannot be believed in the absence of evidence. “Definitely there are others involved in the incident and the real culprits should be arrested at the earliest. Owners of the three cows should receive compensation of ₹5 lakh each,” he said.
Dakshina Kannada district BJP president Satish Kumpala alleged that cows are being slaughtered illegally under Mr. Siddaramaiah’s rule. It is going on unabated, he alleged adding that Hindus too continue to be harassed under the Congress government’s rule.
MP condemns
Meanwhile, condemning the incident, Capt. Brijesh Chowta, MP, alleged that the government is trying to hush up the matter by projecting that one of the accused in the incident was mentally ill.
If the person is mentally ill how can he slash only the udders, the MP asked.
The incident reflected the “distorted mindset” of the person involved who should be punished severely, he said. “The incident is the result of the Congress promoting jihadi mindsets in Karnataka,” Capt. Chowta alleged.
The MP alleged that the appeasement politics of the Congress resulted in continued cow slaughters and theft of cows in the State.
If the Congress government respected cows it should conduct the inquiry from different angles and all those who are behind the incident should be booked, he said.
Pejawar seer seeks action
Vishwaprasanna Tirtha, seer of Udupi Pejawar Mutt who condemned the incident said that the government should set up a fast track court to punish the persons behind the incident severely. “It was a bad day for Hindus,” he said.
