Mangaluru, Dec 15, 2024: Customs officers at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) have seized gold and saffron worth Rs. 1,15,54,061 from three passengers who arrived on flights from Dubai and Abu Dhabi between December 8 and 11.
The passengers, hailing from Kasaragod and Honnavar, were intercepted based on suspicious movements. In one case, a passenger was found concealing gold in paste form inside his underwear.
In another instance, gold in two oval-shaped objects was recovered after being hidden within the passenger’s body. Additional investigations revealed gold in powder form concealed within the base of a carton box, along with small rings made of 24-karat gold weighing 1,429 grams and assorted 18-karat gold jewelry weighing 48 grams.
Additionally, customs officials seized 478 grams of saffron. The seized items have been valued at ₹1.15 crore, and further investigations are underway.
