DC, MP should intervene to ensure timely completion of Nanthoor underpass project: MLC Ivan D’Souza

Mangaluru, December 27, 2024: Deputy Commissioner M.P. Mullai Muhilan and Capt. Brijesh Chowta, MP, should intervene to ensure timely completion of the proposed underpass at the crucial Nanthoor Junction in the city by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), said MLC Ivan D’Souza in Mangaluru on Thursday.

Talking to reporters, Mr. D’Souza said that the NHAI is yet to issue a work order to the contractor to commence the project. The NHAI should first build service roads between KPT and Nantoor Junctions and between Bikarnakatte and Nanthoor Junction before taking up the project.

“The NHAI is yet to make it clear whether it will build service roads,” he said adding the project should be completed in two years.

Mr. D’Souza said he raised 44 questions in the recent Council session in Belagavi, which included five-starred questions. The State government has assured of releasing ₹10 crore to meet the needs of Mangalore University. The government has also assured of releasing ₹400 crore this financial year to speed up works related to Paschima Vahini project. The government has also mentioned releasing ₹250 crore every year to Coastal Development Authority. More National Urban Renewal Mission buses will be operated in Mangaluru, he said.
