DC orders liquor shops to remain closed on Jan 2

dc subodh yadavMangalore, Jan 1: DC Subodh Yadav has ordered the closure of liquor shops on Jan 2, Sunday, as recommended by Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, in a bid to maintain peace and law and order since the Hindu Samajotsava will be held on that day.

All shops licensed to sell liquor within Mangalore and within the jurisdiction of the Ullal Municipality have been ordered not to open on Sunday under Section 21 (1) of the Excise Act. According to the notification, liquor shops should be closed from 6 a.m. to 12 midnight on Sunday.

During these hours, sale and supply of liquor in non proprietary concerns, hotels, star hotels, and others have been banned. The excise department has been instructed to seal the front and back doors of bars and wine shops during these hours.

Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that leaders of various communities have agreed to maintain peace and order during the Hindu Samajotsava. Besides, 2000 police officers have been deployed in addition to policemen from the Mangalore Commissionerate.

The district police have made elaborate preparations for the arrival of Praveen Bhai Togadia, who will deliver the keynote address on the occasion. Police teams have made detailed searches of the venue with the help of sniffer dogs.
