Mangalore, May 31: The DK district administration has taken steps to dispatch booth-level officers (BLO) to the houses of voters who do not have election photo identity cards (EPIC) in order to get them to fill up the EPIC-001B/Form-8 and to get it back from them with a passport-sized photograph.
Prabhakar Sharma, the headquarters’ assistant to the deputy commissioner, said that this has been done according to the instructions of the chief election commissioner of the state. Mr. Sharma was addressing reporters at a press conference held in the conference hall of the DC’s office on May 31, Monday.
He informed journalists that the district administration has successfully distributed EPICs to 93 percent of the voters and ranks next to Udupi, where 95 percent of the voters have EPICs. He said that the BLOs will visit the houses of the voters from June 1 – 10 with the forms and will explain to them the significance of EPIC. The officers will revisit the houses before June 15 to collect the filled up forms with passport-sized photographs. The voters will receive their EPICs before June 30.
Mr. Sharma also said that the Election Commission of India has directed that the voters’ list of the district must be reviewed; and the names of citizens who have crossed the age of 18 should be included in this reviewed list. He said that a rough list will be prepared accordingly before June 21; and citizens who have spotted errors in the spellings or other details can get them corrected before July 6. The final voters list will be ready by the end of July.
Mr. Sharma requested people to cooperate with the BLOs to complete the work in time.
