Mangalore, June 27, 2012: The Dakshin Railway Employees Union (DREU) of Palakkad Division will hold a divisional conference in Town Hall on June 28, Thursday, at 9:30 a.m.


Revealing the above information at a press conference held at Press Club on June 27, Wednesday, Mathew Syriac P, division secretary of DREU Palakkad Division, said that MP P. Karunakaran will inaugurate the event and around 7150 employees of the Palakkad Division will take part in this event.

He also said that R. Elangovan, working president; A. Janakiraman, general secretary; Piyush Agarwal, divisional railway manager of the Southern Railway Division; Mohan A. Menon, additional division railway manager; and Govinda Karanavar, senior divisional personnel officer, will take part in the event and will address the gathering. Besides, leaders of sister organizations will also take part in the conference.


A demonstration will be held in the evening, after which a public meeting will be held at 5:00 p.m. on the premises of Mangalore Railway Station. Basudev Acharya will inaugurate the meeting, he said.


Further, he said that the Indian Railways has around 2,80,000 vacancies, adding that the railway administration is not taking any measures to fill up these posts.


He said that the Indian Railways is giving concessions worth Rs. 156,000 crore every year to passengers belonging to various categories, adding that the central government should provide cross subsidy to the railway to make up for this loss.


Speaking about the purpose of this conference, he said that it is being held to strengthen the opposition to privatize the Indian Railways as it is the most important public service organization and to prevent employee exploitation. The union’s previous performance will be analyzed on this occasion and plans for the future will be made, he said.
