Mangalore Nov 10: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) today staged a protest in front of the district commissioner’s office against discrepancies in BPL card distribution.
Muneer Katipall, the committee president, said that the BJP government had requested people to submit their Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards, saying that it would replace all these cards with computerized cards. The cards have still not been returned.
Moreover, the government has implemented the unit system as per which one person of the family will get only 20 kgs of rice per BPL card. The government has completely forgotten its promise of providing rice to the poor at Rs 2 per kg, he alleged. The temporary card issued to the poor is now no longer valid.
Mr. Katipalla requested the district commissioner to pay attention to the various hardships that the poor have to face owing to the negligence and inefficiency of the state government.
