Udupi: August 16, 2015: Members of the Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS) staged a dharna outside the venue of the Independence Day function near MGM College grounds here on Saturday demanding that the Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake be dropped from the State Cabinet as he was “not sensitive to the welfare of the Dalit community”.
Addressing protestors, Jayan Malpe, DSS convener, said though Mr. Sorake has been the Udupi District Incharge Minister for the last two-and-a-half years, he has not held a single Scheduled Caste and Tribes Grievance Redress meeting.
He said 20 Dalit families will lose their land due to the widening of the National Highway 66 at Kirimanjeshwara village in Kundapur taluk.
