Dharmasthala PSI, parents, brother booked for dowry harassment

Mangaluru, March 27, 2025: An FIR has been registered against Dharmasthala PSI P Kishore and three other family members, at the Chandra Layout Police Station in Bengaluru, on the charges of dowry harassment. The PSI has also been accused of trying to kill his wife.

The Dharmasthala PSI’s wife R Varsha has lodged the complaint following which the police have booked Kishore, his father Puttachannappa, mother Saraswathamma and brother P Chandan who reside in Nelamangala.


Dowry harrsasment


The complainant has stated that her husband and his family members had subject her to torture and demanded dowry and that Kishore even tried to strangle her to death.

While the two were engaged on November 24, 2023, the marriage took place on February 21, 2024. The complainant said that Kishore had demanded a car after engagement and that her father who initially refused had later purchased a car worth Rs 23 lakhs from Bengaluru. She said her family spent Rs 60 lakh on the wedding and that as part of wedding Rs 10 lakh cash, 135 grams gold jewellery for Kishore, 850 gram jewellery for Varsha and 3 kg silver ornaments were given.

Varsha said at the time of marriage Kishore was posted in Moodigere and wanted a transfer for which he sought Rs 10 lakh from her father. When Varsha objected, Kishore reportedly threatened her to shoot her. The complaint also stated that on March 21 this year, Kishore assaulted her with his police belt from 9 pm to 1 am and that she had to receive treatment for the injuries at the KC General Hospital in Bengaluru.

Further investigations are underway.
