Mangaluru, Mar 16, 2025: The Commission for Women, Diocese of Mangalore, marked Women’s Day with a grand celebration at St Sebastian Centenary Auditorium, Bendur, under the theme “Supporting a Mission of Empowerment.” The event also celebrated the ‘Jubilee of Women’ in the year of hope, highlighting women’s vital contributions to the Church, society, and family life.
Presided over by Bishop Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, the event featured Janet Barboza Mudarangady, resource mobilising officer of Maanini Women’s State Federation, as the chief guest. Other dignitaries included Sr. Lidwin Fernandes, Sr. Nancy Lobo, and several clergy members and diocesan leaders.
In his address, Bishop Saldanha reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to gender equality, stating, “True empowerment means giving women their rightful space to thrive in families, workplaces, and society.” Chief guest Janet Barboza shared her inspiring journey, urging women to seize leadership roles and support one another.
The celebration included cultural performances, an interactive session on women’s roles in society, and the Eucharistic celebration. Organisers hailed the event as a movement toward lasting change, igniting hope and empowerment for women across the diocese.
