Disproportionate assets case: Retired engineer gets six years jail

Mangaluru, July 13, 2022: The Third Additional District and Sessions Court of Mangaluru has sentenced a retired executive engineer of the Minor Irrigation Department to six years simple imprisonment and has imposed a penalty of Rs 2.5 crore on him in a disproportionate assets case.

The Karnataka Lokayukta police had filed charge sheet against the retired engineer N T Rajagopal in March 2010.

The court has said that the convict has to undergo an additional one and a half years in jail if he fails to pay the penalty amount.

The engineer had retired from service in October 2016  and was then serving in the engineering division of Yadagir District Panchayat Raj Department. He is presently in judicial custody in Mangaluru.
