Mangaluru, Dec 16, 2015: The DK District Administration has placed a proposal before the state government to extend the existing runway of the Mangaluru International Airport by another 2000 feet.
The decision to send the proposal was put forth at a recent meeting held in the presence of DK District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, Mangaluru International Airport Director J T Radhakrishna, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLC Ivan D’Souza. The proposal has also sought assistance of the state government for land acquisition for the extension.
The State Chief Secretary who had visited the airport some time back had even sought details regarding the proposal. The airport presently has a runway measuring 8000 feet while extending it by another 2000 feet would cost Rs 300 crores.
Already land at Adyapady and Kolambe villages have been identified, survey done and report submitted to the government.
