Mangalore, June 27, 2012 : Addressing the gathering at the World Health Day program jointly organized by the DK Zilla Panchayat and the Department of Health and Family Welfare at the Taluk Panchayat Auditorium on Tuesday, M. V. Venkatesh, assistant commissioner of Mangalore Sub Division, said that maintaining healthy lifestyle is essential to deal with lifestyle disorders such as diabetes and others.

Blaming urbanization for lifestyle disorders, Mr. Venkatesh said that people are eating a lot, but not giving any exercise to their bodies, which results in the accumulation of fat and chemicals within the body. He urged people to think positively and do exercises to burn extra calories. He also advised his listeners to avoid junk food.


world 2Speaking on the occasion, O. R. Shrirangappa, district health and family welfare officer, said that availability of better health care facilities have increased people’s lifespan, owing to which there are number of aged people. Speaking about the need to take care of the aged, he said that they need to be treated with respect.

The organizers felicitated 15 people working in primary health centres on this occasion. Among those felicitated were Terry Nancy Lobo, district leprosy officer, who will be retiring within one month; Jacintha Lobo and Sebastian Rego, senior health assistants; Rosamma and Kumuda, nurses; and Rudrappa B. and Kusum, junior health assistants.
