Mangalore, Feb 11, 2014: A District level Children’s Festival-Makkala Habba organised at the Town Hall in the city on February 10, Monday was inaugurated by District in-charge Minister and State Minister for Forest and Ecology B Ramanatha Rai.
The event was jointly organised by the Department of Women and Child Welfare, Bala Vikasa Academy District Implementation Committee and Department of Public Instructions.
In his inaugural address, Rai said one must find God in children and should not try to misuse their innocence.
He exhorted the student community to take interest in learning history as it would help them lead a better life. At the same time Rai regretted the efforts made by some elements to twist facts pertaining to history.
Koragappa Naik, ZP Chief, presided over the function. Sujith Kamath, a student of Canara High School, Ladyhill spoke on behalf of the students. He said students need to develop a positive attitude in life and march ahead under the guidance of their parents, and elders.
Deputy Commissioner A.B.Ibrahim, MLAs BA Moidin Bava, JR Lobo, ZP Vice President Rithesh Shetty, CWC Chairperson Asha Nayak, Bala Vikasa Academy Implementation Committee President Maunesh Vishwakarma, Gopadkar, Women and Child Welfare Department Deputy Director Gertrude Veigas and others were present.
Gertrude Veigas who spoke on the occasion said Children’s festival would be organised in Pilikula next year.
A variety of cultural events and sports competitions were conducted for the children.
