Mangaluru, Jan 5, 2025: The dog show held at Kadri Park on Sunday drew 151 dogs from over 20 breeds, captivating canine enthusiasts from Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Kasaragod, and Udupi. The event, organized by the Zilla Panchayat and the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, was part of the ongoing Karavali Utsava and marked the department’s first such event in five years.
The show featured an impressive lineup of breeds, including Miniature Pinscher, Shih Tzu, Caravan Hound, Chihuahua, Belgian Malinois, Akita, Maltese, and more. Participants also showcased breeds like the Mudhol Hound, Chippiparai, Mastiff, Pomeranian, Pit Bull, American Bully, Dalmatian, Dobermann, Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, and Great Dane, among others.
The competition was divided into puppy (3 to 6 months, 6 months to 1 year) and adult categories (above 1 year, breed-wise). Judges assessed the dogs based on breed standards, movement, temperament, and overall condition. In the final championship round, winners from all categories vied for cash prizes of ₹10,000, ₹7,500, and ₹5,000, along with trophies.
A demonstration by the Dakshina Kannada and Mangaluru Police Commissionerate dog squad added excitement to the event, showcasing the skills and capabilities of trained service dogs.
Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Dr. Arun Kumar Shetty, highlighted the success of the show, emphasizing the growing interest in canine care and competitions in the region.
The event was a resounding success, bringing together pet owners, dog lovers, and spectators for a memorable day celebrating the bond between humans and their furry companions.
