Dharmasthala, Nov 15, 2011 : Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade has been chosen to receive the Jindal Prize for his efforts to popularize drugless therapies, but a formal announcement of the same is yet to be made in New Delhi.
He will receive the prize at an awards ceremony, which will be held in New Delhi soon. A panel of judges including Justice J. S. Verma, the supreme court judge; Sudarshan Agarwal, the former governor of Uttarkhand; L. C. Gupta, the former chief secretary of Haryana; H. K.Dua, the member of the Rajya Sabha; Prof. Dr. K. Srinath Reddy; Dr. K. Kasturirangan, Kiran Kartik, N. P. Gupta, and B. G. Varghese selected the winners.
The Jindal Prize, instituted by Sitaram Jindal Foundation in 2011, comprises 5 prizes of Rs. 1 crore each given away annually to institutions and individuals in recognition of their social welfare activities.
The five categories include rural development and alleviation of poverty, health care, education, science, technology and environment, and peace and social harmony.
