Bengaluru, July 28, 2024: The Government of Karnataka has appointed Shalini Rajneesh as the new Chief Secretary of the state. She will succeed her husband Rajneesh Goel, who retires on July 31.

In her role as Chief Secretary, Rajneesh will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of state policies, coordinating between various government departments, and ensuring effective administration across Karnataka. Her role will also involve advising the state government on key policy matters and administrative reforms.


Shalini Rajneesh


Shalini Rajneesh, a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, has held various significant positions throughout her career, contributing extensively to public administration and governance. Her appointment is anticipated to drive efficiency and continuity in Karnataka’s administrative processes.

Shalini is the fifth woman to occupy the chief secretary’s post in the state after Teresa Bhattacharya (July 2001-March 2002), Malati Das (Oct 2006-Dec 2006), K Ratna Prabha (Dec 2017Dec 2018) and Vandita Sharma (May 2022-Nov 2023). Shalini and her husband are the third couple to hold the top post after BK Bhattacharya and Teresa Bhattacharya and BK Das and Malati Das.
