Elephant tries to sneak into house in Mudigere

Mudigere, April 18, 2025: A wild elephant tried to sneak into a house in Baradahalli village of Mudigere taluk on Thursday.

The house belonged to one called Yashwanth, a coffee planter.

A lone tusker destroyed the coffee, plantain and areca plants around the house at 7.30 am.

After the noise subsided, the people who locked themselves in the house came out, presuming that the pachyderm might have returned.

However, the elephant was waiting near the front door silently and tried to barge into the house as soon as the people opened the door.

When the panic-struck people started screaming, it fled from the spot. The members of the family confined themselves again into the house, ensuring that the doors are locked again.

In another incident, a herd of 30 elephants is said to have destroyed the walls of the shed, cowshed and houses in Horatti village nearby in the wee hours of Thursday. Water pipes and tanks in a few houses were also allegedly damaged by the pachyderms.

Villagers have urged the forest department to take necessary action.
