Eminent Konkani poet Leo John D’Souza passes away

Mangalore, Oct 10, 2013: Noted Konkani poet Leo John D’Souza  breathed his last on October 10, Thursday morning.


john D’Souza 1He was 79 and was ailing since some time. D’Souza  who was popularly known as Liyab   hailed from Bikarnakatte in Mangalore and had authored over 3000 Konkani poems under the pen name Kavyadas. He had even brought out an anthology of poems called ‘Dev Haslo,’  It has even been translated into English  and is entitled ‘ And God Smiled.’

Recently, another collection of his poems “Devachim Dennim”  was published. He had also authored several articles in Konkani and Kannada and  had also worked as Associate Editor of Raknno Weekly and even served as Manager at Sandesha. He was also a recipient of Konkani Academy award, Mathias Family Poetry Award of Kavitha Trust and Sandesha Award.

 One of his Konkani novel is ‘Putha Patim Ye.” Leo D’Souza  had also translated over 15 books from other languages.
