Mangalore Feb 8: The Congress party, taking advantage of the attacks on places of worship of the minorities, has labeled the BJP as a party against the minorities, while the fact was that the attacks were taking place due to forcible religious conversions, said KS Eshwarappa, the newly elected State BJP President.

Responding to a felicitation conferred on him by the party at the Town Hall in Mangalore on February 8, Monday, he chose to say that the Hindu organizations like the Bhajrangdal and VHP were not responsible for such attacks.

Taking a dig at the Congress, he further said the Congress was not able to do anything even when some Muslim leaders declared fatwa against the Vande Mataram, some time back.

Eshwarappa said he was happy with his new position as State BJP President, after quitting the cabinet as energy minister.

He also exhorted party workers to follow the footsteps of their seniors and work for the development of the party.

In his address, District in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar said the roads of Mangalore could be concretized owing to the initiative of the Yeddyurappa government.

Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said it was the duty of an elected representative to work to the best of his abilities by making use of the powers vested with him.
