Establishment of street vending zones at 33 locations within Mangaluru City Corporation limits: Mayor

Mangaluru, August 31, 2024: The city corporation has decided to establish street vending zones at 33 locations within its jurisdiction. In the first phase, a street vending zone will be set up near Indira Canteen close to State Bank, according to Mayor Sudhir Shetty Kannur.

He shared this information with reporters following the "Mayor Phone-In" program held on Friday at the Mangaluru Corporation. A list of 93 street vendors has been prepared, and identity cards will be issued to them on August 31. Vendors will be allocated stalls based on these identity cards. Basic amenities, including electricity and water supply, will be provided in the street vending zones. The Mayor also mentioned that such zones will be gradually established in other areas under the corporation’s jurisdiction.

At Kavoor, a park or a pay-and-park facility will be set up on the site where unauthorized street vendors were removed. Local businesses have shown interest in this, and appropriate steps will be taken soon. The Mayor assured that the displaced vendors would be accommodated near the Kavoor market.

During the phone-in program, residents such as Jacinta from Maryhill, Nityananda Kamath from Derebail, Ratheesh Kulashekar, Stany Sequeira, Sister Yana from Maryhill, Vishwanath Kotekar, Joseph D’Souza from Kankanady, G.R. Prabhu from Bejai, Nemu Kottari, and others raised their concerns with the Mayor.

Deputy Mayor Sunitha, Standing Committee Chairman Varun Chouta, Deputy Commissioner Ravi Kumar, and others were also present on this occasion.
