Mangalore, Jan 27: Officials of the excise department arrested 4 people and confiscated 4,800 sachets of Goan liquor worth Rs 1.10 lakh at the Mangalore railway station. The operation was led by Excise Deputy Commissioner N M Hussain.
The arrested are Santhosh Kumar Naik (26) of Honnavar, Manjunath (34) of Sirsi, Nagappa Honnappa Naik (37) of Kavoor, and Praveen (32) of Sakleshpur. They were caught red-handed while transporting the liquor illegally to Kerala via train.
N M Hussain said that the excise department acted on the basis of a tip. Currently, the criminal records of the arrested are being investigated. He also said that the department is investigating the illegal transport of Goan liquor into Kerala. The department is also trying to find out who the suppliers of the liquor are.
