Five-day literary fest in Vidhana Soudha from February 27

Mangaluru, February 4, 2025: A literary-cum-cultural fest will be held in the Vidhana Soudha premises between February 27 and March 3, said Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader in Mangaluru on Monday.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Khader said the event will be organised for the first time to bring the ruling class close to literary persons. 

As a part of the fest, there will be stalls of over 150 government and private publishers around the Vidhana Soudha building. Majority of the stalls will sell Kannada books. Opportunity will be given to release new books. Rules are being framed to allow legislators to make use of around ₹3 lakh from their area development funds for purchasing books for public libraries and government college libraries of their constituencies.

Mr. Khader said writers will be invited to hold literary discussions. Awards will be presented to some writers. There will also be cultural programme in the evenings. Food stalls will also be set up. There will be no restriction for people to attend the event.  

Mr. Khader said the literary-cum-cultural fest would be an annual event henceforth.

A committee headed by Secretary, Karnataka Legislative Assembly, has been formed to work out modalities of the programmes. Suggestions of people have been invited for name and logo of the event. Suggestions can be sent by email to secy-kla-kar@nic.in or can be sent by WhatsApp to 9448108798. The best suggestions will receive prizes, he added.

Mr. Khader said bids have been floated for having permanent facility to light Vidhana Soudha. This will be done to prevent huge expense made for temporary lighting of the building during important days namely Independence Day and Republic Day.
