Malpe, Dec 26, 2022: The first floating bridge of the state set up at Malpe beach was inaugurated by Udupi MLA K Raghupathi Bhat on December 25, Sunday. Former minister Pramod Madhwaraj, Udupi SP Akshay Machindra, Malpe Beach leaseholder Sudesh Shetty and others were present.
The 120 meter long and 3.5 meter wide bridge has a railing system on either sides and 100 people can use this bridge at a time. There will be 15 life guards on duty and also a boat at one end of the bridge in the event of emergency. All those using the floating bridge will have to mandatorily wear life jackets.
The sturdiness of the bridge was inspected by the experts from Kerala and Karnataka following which the district administration has allowed to open it for public use.
It may be recalled here that the previous floating bridge had suffered damage within three days of it opening for the public due to adverse weather conditions seven months ago.
