Former Udupi MLA U R Sabhapathi passes away

Udupi, May 21, 2023: Former Udupi MLA U R Sabhapathi (71) passed away on Sunday. He was ailing for sometime and failed to respond to the treatment.

 

He is survived by his wife, daughter and two sons.

Sabhapathi was elected MLA from the Udupi Assembly constituency in 1994 on the Karnataka Congress Party (KCP) ticket. Later, the KCP merged with the Congress. He was re-elected from Udupi Assembly constituency in 1999 as a Congress candidate. He lost against BJP’s Raghupati Bhat in 2004. In the 2012 Lok Sabha elections, Sabhapathi joined the JD(S) and contested for the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency.

Sabhapathi, who had been a Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat member from Udyavara in 1987, was simultaneously the chairman of the ZP Standing Committee for Education and the Youth Congress president from Dakshina Kannada (North).
