Dharmasthala, April 20, 2025: Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar assured that the government will adopt a measured approach on the caste census, emphasizing equality and justice for all communities.
Speaking at Dharmasthala on Sunday, Shivakumar highlighted the Congress party’s commitment to uplifting marginalized communities and addressing poverty across all castes, including Jains, Brahmins, Lingayats, and Vokkaligas. “The caste census report is under discussion. Ninety percent of the work is complete, with 10% remaining. We will ensure justice without rushing decisions,” he said.
On Rahul Gandhi’s push for a caste census, Shivakumar noted that he had not reviewed Gandhi’s purported letter but reiterated Congress’ stance on justice for all.
Addressing politics in Coastal Karnataka, he dismissed the notion of the region being a ‘Hindutva fortress,’ asserting it as inclusive of all religions. “The region’s water, temples, dargahs, and environment transcend caste and religion. Congress works for all communities, unlike BJP’s divisive politics,” he stated.
Shivakumar also stressed prioritizing people’s welfare over political sentiments. He expressed hope for increased Congress representation in the region, promising greater benefits and potential ministerial roles for local leaders in the future.
