HC judge opens court, legal clinic in B C Road

Mtoday news

B C Road, Feb 5: Despite several loopholes in the Legislature and the Executive, the Indian democracy still survives due to the strong functioning of the judiciary. Yet with three crore of pending cases in the Indian courts, it is obvious that the Indians are losing faith in the judiciary.

Therefore providing speedy and quality justice would rebuild the faith of the public towards the judiciary, opined District Administrative Magistrate and Karnataka High Court Judge H N Nagamohandas.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the new building of the Additional Civil and First Class Judicial Magistrate and the Legal Clinic in B C RoadCourt premises on Saturday. In the programme organised by the Principal District and Sessions Court Mangalore, Dakshina Kannada District Legal Services Authority and Advocates Association Bantwal, Justice Nagamohandas expressed his concern over the pending cases in our nation.

“Despite as many as 50,000 cases being solved by the Supreme Court, 16,00,000 cases by the High Court and 1,65,00,000 cases by the lower courts every year, the pending 3 crore cases are curbing the progress of the Indian judiciary. Thus, to solve the cases at the earliest, the small and possible cases must be solved through informal talks in the personal level. It would reduce the burden lying on the shoulders of the judiciary,” he stated and said that settling the cases is more important than the case disposal.

Rs 40 lakh for Moodbidri

Justice Nagamohandas appreciated the developmental works related to the courts in Dakshina Kannada. Rs 40 lakh has been already sanctioned for the construction of the court building in Moodbidri for which the foundation stone will be laid soon. With it, the district will have four new court buildings including B C Road, Puttur and the District Court, he said.

Demand for guest house

Observing the difficulties faced by the advocates, H N Nagamohandas also requested the government for constructing guest houses in Mangalore. He also demanded for setting up of separate residential quarters for the Bar Council members.

PWD Minister C M Udasi who was one of the chief guests, assured of doing his best to provide residential quarters for the Bar members. “The proposal has been put forth to construct residential quarters, but the construction work might start based on the financial convenience,” he said.

The new Court building has been constructed with an amount of Rs 1,50,00,000. Bantwal MLA Ramanath Rai presided over the function. Law, Justice and Human Rights Minister S Suresh Kumar, District-in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar and others were present. Legal Clinic and second phase of the Puttur Court building and a ramp in the court was also inaugurated on Saturday.
