Harish K Adhur bags Pa Go Award for excellent reporting

Mangalore, Mar 21: Harish K Adhur, the former reporter of Samyukta Karnataka, bagged the Padyana Gopalakrishna (Pa Go) Award for excellent rural reporting at the Press Club on March 21, Sunday. The award has been instituted by the Pa Go Memorial Trust.

Jayarama Raje Aras (IAS), the secretary of the Kannada Culture and Information Department, was the chief guest of the event. He felicitated the award winner with a memento, a citation, and a shawl.

Aras said that these awards, which are given in recognition of excellent reporting, encourage other journalists to give qualitative reports too.

Mr. Adhur, the winner of this award, had worked hard to collect information on the rural life of a particular tribe that lacks the basic amenities of life. Most reporters collect information via telephone, which might be far from the truth; hence they must get into the field and get the facts directly from the source, he said.

He also said that the newspapers of today focus on the negative happenings in society; this must be avoided because a lot of good also happens, which, if reported, will give people a positive feeling toward society.

Mr. Adhur expressed his joy at having won the award and said that many of his journalist friends have helped him to reach his goal. The award winner, who also works as a lecturer in the department of journalism in Alva’s Educational Institution, said that a major change must be done to the syllabus in schools and colleges. He also said that innovations have been done in the field of journalism, but they need to be updated before successful implementation.

Guruvappa Balepuni, the secretary of Dakshina Kannada Working Journalist’s Union, welcomed the gathering and the guests. Pushparaj, a member of the DKWJU, proposed the vote of thanks.

U Narasimha Rao and Savithri Rao and President of DKWJU Harsha also participated in this event.
