Heatwave conditions to prevail in Karnataka coast till February 27

Bengaluru, February 27, 2025: While hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail across coastal Karnataka till February 28, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail along the coast till February 27, the India Meteorological Department, Bengaluru, said in its report released on Wednesday.

The IMD said during this period there will be an increase in the relative humidity between 45% and 60% and maximum air temperature will be in the range of 36 to 38 degrees Celsius across the coast. As a result, the human body will perceive temperature of the range between 40 to 50 degrees Celsius.

Asking people not to get exposed to direct sunlight between noon and 3 p.m., the IMD said people should keep themselves hydrated by drinking water, ORS, lassi, lime water, and buttermilk. People should wear light clothes, cover the head with cloth, hat or umbrella. Animals should be kept in a shade and given enough water.

In 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. on February 26, the minimum temperature over coastal Karnataka was in the range between 21 and 23 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Karwar was above normal as there was rise of 2.2 degrees Celsius over the normal minimum temperature.  

The maximum temperature was above normal over coastal Karnataka and the temperature ranged between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius. Karwar recorded highest maximum temperature of 37.6 degrees Celsius in the State, the IMD said in its observatory report.
