Heavy rain inundates road, traffic hit for hours in Pumpwell

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, July 3, 2023: Pumpwell Road in Mangaluru has been completely submerged due to heavy and continuous rainfall, causing severe traffic congestion on Monday, July 3.

The floodwater beneath the Pumpwell flyover has reached knee height, blocking the route towards Mangaluru. Some vehicles got stuck in the water. Buses and other vehicles traveling from the Mangalore city area towards Talapady, Tokkottu, and B.C. Road have been stranded due to the water not receding, making it impossible to proceed from there. The public is blaming the negligence in the construction of the flyover bridge for this unfortunate situation.

To manage the situation, traffic police have been deployed in the area, and there is a possibility of redirecting vehicles to alternative routes. Furthermore, the heavy rainfall has also led to waterlogging at Kottara Chowki junction.

It is worth noting that junctions like Pumpwell and Kottara Chowki face flooding and waterlogging issues every year, yet a permanent solution to this recurring problem has not been discovered.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains for the next five days, with an orange alert in effect until July 7.
