Heavy rainfall: Holiday for schools, PU colleges in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on August 1

Mangaluru, July 31, 2024: Due to heavy rainfall in the twin districts, a holiday has been declared for schools and pre-university colleges in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi on Thursday, August 1.

This holiday applies to all Anganwadis, primary and high schools, and pre-university colleges (up to 12th class), including government, aided, and unaided private institutions.

Parents are advised to ensure that their children avoid low-lying areas, lakes, seashores, and riverbanks. Fishermen are also warned against venturing into the water.

A red alert has been issued for the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada for the next 24 hours. An orange alert has been issued for Udupi, Uttara Kannada, and the Malnad district of Shivamogga for two days, followed by a yellow alert for the next two days.

Heavy rainfall is expected in Dakshina Kannada district, and wind speeds will consistently be between 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. The weather department has stated that Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts will also experience very heavy rainfall along with continuous winds.
