Mangalore, Nov 11: Mangalore witnessed heavy rainfall for a few hours resulting in floods and road blocks on Nov 11, Wednesday. Rain water flooded into several apartments and shops in Falnir, Car Street, and Kadri. Car Street suffered more than any other area of Mangalore, with rain water reaching knee level.

In addition to the sudden rains, 2 other factors are responsible these pathetic conditions. First, several road-widening projects are going on in several areas of Mangalore leading to frequent traffic jams. Most of these projects are incomplete, creating a number of problems citizens in general and for two-wheeler riders and pedestrians in particular. Second, the MCC has failed miserably to construct rain-water drains owing to which the houses and shops have been flooded.

Since the water in the city got accumulated on the roads until it raised to knee level, the Car Street area appeared more congested for more than more than half an hour.
