Bengaluru, July 14, 2024: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts in the Malnad region of Karnataka, warning of heavy rainfall till July 17. Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Uttara Kannada and Shimoga districts have been issued a red alert due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall.
Further intensification of rainfall is expected on Monday, prompting red alerts for five districts, including three coastal districts. The weather department anticipates heavy rainfall in these areas and along the coast until the 17th.
Due to the extreme impact of weather disturbances in the Arabian Sea, the monsoon rains have intensified. Therefore, there is a possibility of more than 200 millimeters of rain daily in some districts of the state.
The northern districts, including Bagalkote, Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Yadgiri, Koppal, Vijayapur, and Gadag, have been placed under a yellow alert due to anticipated intense rainfall.
A cyclone has formed at a kilometer-high level in the Arabian Sea along the coast of Maharashtra and northern Kerala. Its intensity is expected to activate the monsoon in various parts of the state. The weather over the past week has felt like a mix of the rainy and winter seasons.
