Mangalore, Dec 15, 2012: K S Shivaramu, State President of the Karnataka Rajya Hindulida Vargagala Jagruta Vedike has alleged that the state government was trying to continue the superstitious practice of Madesnana by naming it Ede Snana.
Speaking at a press meet held at Press Club on Dec 15, Saturday, he said that the government was in the control of the priestly class and alleged that it was Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt who coined the term of Ede Snana. He said that the term of Ede Snana too was an inhuman practice like Madesnana and need to be banned.
He wondered how a practice like Madesnana or Edesnana was still surviving even when several superstitious practices in the name of religion and God have been banned after independence.
Ede Snana is nothing but a ritual of insulting the food, he said and added his Vedike would take the case even upto Supreme Court for justice . Stating that Made Snana is a symbol of slavery, he said presently the focus is only on Subrahmanya Temple, while there were many more temples in the district which are continuing another unwelcome practice of Pankthibedha wherein the so called upper caste people are served food separately.
He also said that on Dec 21, a jatha against the practice of Pankthibedha will be taken out from Subrahmanya, He said a convention is also scheduled to take place in Udupi on December 27.
