Mangalore, Mar 16: “Bible Day and Night,” a 25-hour continuous preaching of the New Testament, was inaugurated at the Holy Cross Church, Kulshekar, at 5 p.m. on March 1, Monday. The event is scheduled to conclude on March 16, Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The event was inaugurated by Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza by reading a passage from the New Testament. In his inaugural speech, the bishop said that the Bible is the best selling book in the world, adding that all those who seek inspiration read it and derive strength to cope with ailments and difficulties. He urged the faithful to read the Bible, contemplate its words, and follow the example of Christ. The bishop celebrated the Holy Mass in which a number of priests concelebrated.
Sr Wilberta BS, the superior general of Bethany Sisters, was the chief guest of the occasion. She proclaimed that the words of God can heal and transform evil into good.
Archbishop Bernard Moras of Bangalore will preside over the concluding ceremony at 6 p.m. on March 16, Tuesday. The Diocesan Vicar General Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu and Rector of St Joseph’s Seminary Fr Victor J Machado will be the chief guests of the valedictory ceremony.
This is the first Bible programme of its kind to be held in India. The Holy Cross parish has organized this programme on account of the Lenten season and also because the Pope has dedicated the year to the clergy. Priests, nuns, lay persons, as well as 260 readers will participate in this unique programme.
