Udupi, March 23, 2025: "Our human-centric perspective on development has led to the climate emergency we face today. What we need now is the adoption of green political principles," said Dr. Jens Marquardt from Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany. He was addressing a session on “Geopolitics and Peace in the Anthropocene” organized jointly by the Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences (GCPAS) and the Department of Geopolitics and International Relations (DGIR) at Manipal MAHE.

Dr. Marquardt elaborated on the origins and evolution of the human-centric development model, stating that it has significantly contributed to the ongoing climate crisis, which poses a challenge to global peace. He explained how rapid industrialization has accelerated the impact of human activities on the climate, leading to what he described as "technological authoritarianism." To counter this crisis, he emphasized the need for green political ideologies and radical democracy.

Speaking at the event, GCPAS head Prof. Varadesh Hiregange observed that the world today appears to be moving toward a disconnect between reality and idealism. DGIR head Prof. Vijayalakshmi highlighted the interconnectedness between climate crises and geopolitics of peace.
